I have just returned from Anglers Inn on Lake El Salto.  I was there from May 12-20, 2007 and this represented my 12th trip to El Salto.  The fishing was great as usual, but the side trip I made was the highlight of my trip.  On May 18th Chappy, guide Peppi, and I pulled a boat up to the magnificent Lake Mateos.  This new lake will be open for customers in November 2007 and I can hardly wait.  This lake is big and beautiful.  There are many islands, humps, ridges, and a tremendous amount of buck brush along the shoreline and islands.

We fished 4 hours one afternoon and 4 hours the next morning.  We caught a total of 39 bass with the biggest weighing 7.5 lbs.  The average for the 39 bass was around 3 lbs.  The lake has a huge population of tilapia and what really impressed me was the large number of small bass fingerlings we saw.  I can honestly say that I have never seen so many small bass in a lake and they will be large before too long.   I am booking a trip for November to fish on Mateos and stay at the new lodge.  This lodge is located below the dam overlooking a beautiful river.  This is going to be a very special place and my hat goes off to Billy Chapman Jr. for putting this great package together.
